Literally translated: To reach a green twig, to come onto a green twig. If somebody has success it is said he/she 'kommt auf einen grünen Zweig'. Sometimes used in the negative: 'wird nie auf einen grünen Zweig kommen', will never rech a green twig, will not have success.
